Fixing common crashes & freezes

Why a server stops or hangs, and the quick checks to bring it back and stop it happening again.

·Out of memory

  1. 1Watch the console for OutOfMemory / 'killed' messages.
  2. 2Upgrade RAM, lower max players, or reduce view distance/mob counts for modded games.
  3. 3A modpack-heavy server often needs 2× the base game's RAM.

·Wrong startup / Java version

  1. 1If the server won't boot, check the console for 'unsupported class version' or missing files.
  2. 2Some games need a specific Java/JRE — the Startup tab shows the exact command.

·Plugins/mods conflict

  1. 1Crash right after adding a plugin? Remove the newest file and restart.
  2. 2Check the mods/plugins folders and keep them updated.
  3. 3Enable auto-restart on crash so the server comes back on its own.
